Freshwater Fisheries

New Zealand's freshwater fishery has long been recognised as a valuable contributor to tourism and recreational industries.

Many water-based proposals involve the abstraction of water from streams or rivers, which can often lead to a reduction in habitat for some fish species.

In such cases an assessment of available habitat is required for assurance that there will still be adequate physical habitat after abstraction.

Envirolink staff, working with fisheries experts have carried out numerous fish habitat assessments in local rivers and elsewhere in the country.
